The first Lithuanian track and field veterans' sports club, "Metikas" (The Thrower), was established on Jan. 9, 1992. On that day, a small group of sports enthusiasts gathered at the inaugural meeting at the "Dynamo" riding hall in Vilnius, to establish the sports club. It was attended by Vytautas Barisas, Antanas Celiesius, Vytautas Jaras, Birute Kersuliene, Danuta Scepanskiene, Romas Ubartas, Danguole Urbikiene, Kestutis Vislavicius, and Aldona Vrubliauskiene.
And so the foundation was laid for yet another track and field veterans organization in Lithuania. Soon after the inaugural meeting, the regulations of the club were written and the club seal was made. The club "Metikas" was registered with the municipality of Vilnius on January 30, 1992 and re-registered October 22, 1996.
Kestutis Vislavicius was elected the club's first chairman of the board and board members were V. Barysas, A. Celiesius, B. Kersuliene, and D. Scepanskiene.
During the club's formative period, a major role was played by A.Celiesus, B. Kersuliene and D. Urbkiene. Austra Mikelyte actively joined in it's activities, along with Leonardas Varnas, Sigitas Liepinaitis, Rimgaudas Lukauskas, Jonas Siaudinis and Kestutis Venslovaitis.
The current president is Birute Kersuliene, who was elected on April 1, 2000.
The sports club "Metikas" is a member of the Lithuanian Athletic Federation.
